Income Tax Department does a SURVEY with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions

There is not even a single Bollywood movie, of quite a few like Kaun (starring Urmila Matondkar), which does not have extra characters in the backdrop of the film. It may be in the form of the crowd, or people on the beach, dancers at a wedding, etc.

But it seems the IT department just noticed them. It is being reported by a newspaper that the IT department has a suspicion that the production houses like Dharma Productions, Balaji Films, Excel Entertainment and more are not levying enough tax while paying the extras.

While the extras now pay a TDS (Tax Deducted At Source) of 2% on their wage, they should supposedly pay 10% TDS. Also to be noted is that the stars of the films as well as other actors also pay 10% TDS since they are all ‘skilled artistes’.

Will the taxation for extras be reformed now? As of now, no final decision has been taken yet.
