Shekhar Kapur goes all legal with Ali Abbas Zafar for Mr. India

Since the day the director, Ali Abbas Zafar announced that he is going to remake the iconic film of Bollywood, Mr. India, into a trilogy film series, the people associated with the original film are angry with him.

First, it was Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of Anil Kapoor who played the role of Mr. India in the original film. She said that nobody took any confirmation or even consulted his father or the director Shekar Kapur for the rights to make a remake.

And now the director Shekar has come forward and wrote in a post on social media about it.

“We sit with writers from day one but are not the writer. Help actors hone performances but are not actors. Develop and create visual language of film. Slave hours over editing consoles. Directors lead and inspire every aspect of a film and have no creative rights?” Kapur tweeted.

He also added Mr.India hashtag so as to let people know that he is talking about the remake.

Kunal Kohli, another Bollywood director, replied to Shekhar’s tweet and asked him to take action legally, to which Kapur agreed and said that yes it’s time to test this legally… let’s do it.

This copying and stealing of stories, songs, lyrics, and music, is a common thing in Bollywood now. Take for example the songs of Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah. Especially Badshah, who keeps on producing new remix versions of older hit songs.

What will be the outcome? We will have to wait and watch.
